Home Economics is a practical subject which motivates our pupils and enables them to learn about nutrition and cookery skills in real life contexts.

Home Economics is divided into three key concepts:

Healthy eating

Home and family life

Independent living

Our Home Economics facilities are fully equipped with six high specification hobs and ovens, microwaves and teacher demonstration camera.  There is also a multi-purpose room equipped with computers to assist teaching ICT through Home Economics.

Our Team

We have an experienced Home Economics teacher and a dedicated Home Economics Technician.

 Mrs Christine Byrne

Mrs Rosie Dobbin (Technician)

In Year 8 we will learn about good foods to eat and make some healthy snacks such as French bread pizza, vegetable soup, wheaten bread and don't forget about the sweet treats like raspberry ruffles, scones and banana muffins.

All pupils study Home Economics for their first three years.  At Key Stage 4, pupils can choose to study GCSE Hospitality or choose the catering options of the Occupational Studies course.
